Dr. Derek Yung

Electrophysiologist: Director of the Device Clinic and Implant Program at SHN

BIO:

Dr. Derek Yung completed his medical degree with honours at the University of Ottawa. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at McMaster University and Cardiology training at the University of Toronto. In 2011, he finished a two-year fellowship in Electrophysiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and served as the chief fellow in his senior year. He has been recognized with awards in teaching and research, with a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Yung was recruited to the Cardiology and Electrophysiology teams at the Scarborough Health Network and Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering sites in 2013. He brings advanced arrhythmia expertise to the regional cardiac program for the Central East LHIN. He is proficient in a broad range of electrophysiology procedures, including ablation and device implantation. He has a particular interest in the management and ablation of complex arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, catapulting the program to one of the leading Cryoballoon atrial fibrillation ablation centres in the country.

Dr. Yung is the Director of the Device Clinic and Implant Program at SHN. He has lead the regional implementation of remote monitoring for implanted devices, and continues to improve accessibility to heart rhythm consultations through tele-health initiatives. He maintains excellent and timely cardiac care for his patients, and is dedicated to educating his patients to improve their quality of life and maximize their level of independence and function in the community. Dr. Yung remains actively engaged in research to provide the most cutting edge technologies to his patients. He is also a respected educator for medical trainees and provides ongoing CME to practicing physicians in the region. He is currently seeing and accepting patients at the Scarborough and Ajax sites of the Heart Health Institute.
