Dr. Derek Yung
Dr. Derek Yung completed his medical degree with honours at the University of Ottawa. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at McMaster University and Cardiology training at the University of Toronto. In 2011, he finished a two-year fellowship in Electrophysiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and served as the chief fellow in his senior year. He has been recognized with awards in teaching and research, with a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Yung recently joined the Cardiology and Electrophysiology teams at the Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS), Centenary and Ajax-Pickering sites. His recruitment to the cardiac program fosters additional expertise in arrhythmia management. He is proficient in a broad range of electrophysiology procedures, including ablation of supraventricular tachycardias and complex arrhythmias (ie. atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias), and device implantation. He is directing the defibrillator clinic at RVHS, and is currently working on a remote care initiative to improve access for patients who live in less accessible areas in the region. He maintains excellent and timely cardiac care for his patients, and is dedicated to educating his patients to improve their overall quality of life and maximize their level of independence and function in the community. He is currently seeing and accepting patients at the Scarborough and Ajax sites of the Heart Health Institute.
